First RecycleOn Center Opens in Southern Oregon

Recycling in Oregon is entering an exciting new chapter. Circular Action Alliance (CAA) is proud to announce the launch of Oregon’s very first RecycleOn Centers, opening in Southern Oregon. These new drop-off locations mark a major milestone in the rollout of the Recycling Modernization Act, a statewide effort to expand recycling access, reduce waste, and build a stronger, more convenient recycling system.

RecycleOn Centers officially launched on October 15 with an event at the Recology Ashland Recycling Center, bringing together partners from across Oregon to celebrate this exciting milestone. The event was attended by service providers, local governments, elected officials, and community members who have supported the Recycling Modernization Act since its early stages and continue to play a vital role in improving recycling statewide.

The launch of the Centers highlighted the collaborative effort driving Oregon’s new recycling system forward, including participation from local governments and service providers working together to make recycling easier and more accessible for every community.

By the end of 2027, over 140 RecycleOn Centers will open across Oregon, ensuring that every county has at least one location. This expansion will bring recycling closer to home for most residents, with more than 90% of Oregonians living within 15 miles of a drop-off location, creating new opportunities to recycle a wider variety of materials.

Why it matters

The new system makes recycling easier, more accessible, and more reliable for everyone. RecycleOn Centers are free to use and designed to fill the gaps for items that are not always collected in recycling bins at people’s homes or work. Residents will now be able to drop-off the following empty and dry items :

• Plastic bags and stretchy plastics
• Plastic lids from items like yogurt and sour cream
• Ridged plastic package handles, such as six-pack carriers
• Plastic buckets and pails
• Aluminum foil and trays
• Shredded paper in paper bags, rolled or stapled shut

With more locations, better support, and consistent statewide service, these Centers will help more Oregonians participate in recycling and give these materials another life.

Along with the new centers, Oregonians now have access to a Look Up tool on RecycleOn.org/Oregon. By entering an address, residents can:

• Find the closest RecycleOn Center or recycling program
• See which materials are accepted locally
• Get clear guidance on what goes where

This tool helps take the guesswork out of recycling, making it simple to do the right thing.
