Carton Recycling 101
You just finished a bowl of your favorite cereal and now have a soymilk carton to dispose of. Should you rinse it? Leave the cap on? Toss it in the trash because you’re unsure? We’re here to help.
As a part of Oregon’s new modernized recycling system, Oregonians across the state can now recycle cartons. Before you toss it in the recycling bin, remove the cap (recycle it at a RecycleOn Center or throw it away) and give the carton a quick rinse. We recommend giving it a quick shake to ensure all the water is out.
This applies to a variety of carton types including:
- Milk (shelf stable and alternative milks)
- Juice
- Soup
- Broth
- Liquid egg whites
Remember, even if they feel “carton and paper like” not all materials are made the same—that means there are items that feel like cartons, but are not allowed in your bin, that includes:
- Ice cream containers
- Frozen food boxes
We hope this helps the next time you’re wondering where to place your cartons, thanks for doing your part in helping us RecycleOn!
